Handmade metal singing bowls.
Most are handmade using traditional methods, with a mixture of metals and precious metals. Such as the Nada Yoga, Chaken, Chöpa, DeWa, Nirmala, and Ohm series. These hand-hammered singing bowls each have their unique look and sound.
Handmade singing bowl made of copper, tin and 8 precious metals (Ag, Ni, Cd, Ru, Pd, Pt, Cr, Mn).
Hammered singing bowls are a completely manual process. Each singing bowl is carefully hammered into the correct shape, going through various stages to achieve the right form and a pure tone. In this process, the different metals (copper, tin, iron, lead, gold, and silver) are first melted in a furnace, depending on what the final product requires (copper and tin = bronze) forming the main components for the bronze bowls, with very small percentages of the other metals for the seven metal bowls. The molten metal is then removed from the furnace and poured into a mould, after which discs of various diameters and thicknesses are cut from it, which can then be further processed. Then the discs are hand-hammered into the desired shape and size, after precise measurement and classification by weight. About five discs are first placed on top of each other and heated in the oven until red-hot, after which they are hammered one by one into a bowl shape using a mould. The skilled craftsmen can only do this when the metal is red-hot, because if it cools down too much, it becomes brittle and cracks can form, making the bowl unusable.
After the bowls have their rough shape, the intricate finishing process begins. In this stage, each bowl gets its own shape and size, and again, a lot of fine hammering is involved, so the bowl must be heated red-hot again to achieve the exact right shape and sound. After this, the bowls are individually sanded and polished inside and out, and possibly worked with chisels, for the finishing touch.
